Sure do sir. We talked about those as well. At the time we had looked at both Railo and SmithProject - our biggest question was would they still be around after a year or two? I realize the same question can be applied to Drupal, but they appear to have the strongest community. It looks like SP hasn't been updated in quite some time, but Railo seems to be pretty consistent. I believe we even tried Railo for a month, but there was still a need to reduce the time it took to build applications and we thought it would be best to move away from CFML. I still like the language.

We also came close to starting over with Ruby on Rails or something like CakePHP/Zend. In the end, we figured we'd simply be rebuilding whats already built (theoretically), and starting with Drupal was a good launching point into providing the base CMS and adding custom application on top of it.

You do realize that you had other CFML alternatives? Both Railo - getrailo.org - and Open BlueDragon - openbluedragon.org - are open source CFML engines. Both have been around as proprietary engines for several years before going open source last year. Add to that, Mura CMS - getmura.com - is an open source CMS written in CFML that's as good as any PHP based CMS if not better.

It boggles my mind how many people decide to move away from CFML, not knowing they don't have to. The proprietary argument is no longer applicable to CFML.
