Why Should You Use Gmail (Google Mail)?

Monday, August 18th, 2008

I’ve been using Google Mail since around 2004 when it was invite-only. After the first few emails, I was hooked. I killed my existing Hotmail, Yahoo! and other random accounts laying around. They simply provided few features, and demanded money for features that are basically standard in any mail client like Outlook. I email pretty frequently, so it is important that I have a feature rich service available to me anytime, anywhere.

So why Gmail? For starters, its really simple to import existing contacts into your system from your other accounts. Gmail also supports POP3 and IMAP- for free. This means that you can use any email client like Mozilla Thunderbird (also free) from any desktop and connect to your email. Last time I checked, Hotmail and Yahoo! both charged an annual fee to do this which is ridiculous. It isolates customers who don’t want to be tied to a web interface all the time. My storage cap at that time was like 250 MB, a ridiculously small amount. So it was no contest to switch to Gmail, who offer 6 GB to 8 GB per account, almost enough to last a lifetime (I have 7000 email conversations in my inbox).

Included with Gmail is Google Docs, Google’s online alternative to Microsoft Office. It is a lightweight application for basic word processing or spreadsheet creation. You can also share access with other Gmail clients (coworkers, friends, employees) by putting in their email address into the access list. They can then access the files and make revisions without ever having to connect to a server or downloading / uploading files, its all done from the web interface. And if that isn’t enough, Google Talk is embedded into the mailbox sections loaded with your contact list. If they also use Gmail, you can IM directly through Gmail instantly through the power of AJAX.

For those that are tech savvy like me and own an iPhone or iPod Touch, Gmail is supported fully either through Safari or the device’s Mail application- which to me is even more addictive than the Blackberry (Crackberry).

All of these reasons alone are enough to cut ties with other email services and sign up with Google. If that wasn’t enough, check out this article detailing 10 Reasons To Switch To Gmail.

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Inclind Inc announces the launch of a new, contemporary website this week for Baywood Greens of Long Neck, DE.

Baywood Greens is a scenic golf course community located just off Route 24 in Long Neck, DE.  This quaint location provides easy access to both the towns of Rehoboth and Millsboro while offering quiet, luxury homes in resort style living surrounded by an exclusively public 18 hole golf course. The Baywood Greens Clubhouse is host to a restaurant as well as a banquet facility, weddings, and other events.

The inventive new website contains numerous improvements with new features like virtual 3D golf course fly over videos of the new Duneside 9 holes, an interactive event calendar, current weather conditions, and abundant photo galleries of floral arrangements, gardens, weddings, and events. “We could not be happier with the site and we had a great experience working with the Inclind Inc team. The whole project was handled very professionally. We love it!” says Mark Coty, General Manager of Baywood Greens.

About Baywood Greens:

Robert W. Tunnell, Jr., principal of Tunnell Companies, is the visionary behind Baywood Greens golf course, the Clubhouse, Communities, and all their amenities. It has taken a lot of hard work, skill and determination to make his vision come to life. Now that it is finally here you can come and experience the beauty of it first hand.

The initial layout and design of the course was by Bill Love ASGCA (formally of Ault, Clark and Associates). Final design was completed by land sculpture extraordinaire Larry Dewitt and owner/developer Rob Tunnell, who turned original sketches into a work of art.

Baywood Greens is a public golf club located in Long Neck, Delaware that is consistently rated as one of the very best in the state.

The front nine holes are nicknamed the “Woods Nine”, while the back nine holes carry the “Water Nine” nickname. A third 9-hole grouping is planned on the north side of Route 24, which is supposed to be the “Sand Nine”.

The course is noted for having over 200,000 flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees that decorate the playing area.

With the future construction of a large hotel, the owners hope to vie for PGA tournament status.

Dogfish Head Brewery Mentioned in TIME

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Our client Dogfish Head Brewery located in Milton, Delaware was mentioned in an article on TIME this weekend. Here’s an snippet:

It is uncertain how fast craft beers will continue to grow, but Herz said the indicators are good. After a shakeout in the mid 1990s, the nation’s remaining 1,400 craft brewers have a stronger hold on shelf space and restaurant menus. Anheuser-Busch and Coors are making their own line of full-flavored beers. And the Brewers Association’s book “Start Your Own Brewery” has sold more than 1,000 copies. “A brewery in every town is not so crazy to think about in the future,” she said. “It all goes back to the movement of consuming products that are locally produced.

“Who would have ever thought that Denver, Colo., would become the Napa Valley of beer?” she said. More than 60 breweries lie within in a 100-mile radius of Denver.

Their small size gives craft brewers the freedom to explore the outer limits of beer, and they are being rewarded by consumers who value good flavor, said Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Del.

“This hasn’t happened because of some half-billion dollar advertising campaign on behalf of the big brewers,” he said. “It’s truly the consumer becoming self-educated.

“It’s a kind of a blue-collar connoisseurship. Anybody can afford to buy the world’s best beers. But if you wanted to buy a bottle of the world’s best wine, you’d have to spend thousands of dollars.”

Look for a brand new feature rich custom website for Dogfish Head Brewery this Fall. Meanwhile head to downtown Rehoboth Beach, DE and enjoy food and drink at the Brewpub, or take a tour in their Milton facility.

The LAMP Stack Technology

Friday, July 25th, 2008

What is the LAMP stack?

LAMP stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (or Perl or Python). Used together, they represent the most popular and most powerful form of web servers and website hosting.

All of our websites are hosted on LAMP servers, even Adobe Coldfusion based websites (where normally Coldfusion Server is best set for a Windows Server environment).

Why should your website be LAMP powered (or at least hosted on Linux)? Read on »

Inclind Launches Beracah Homes - Delmarva Based Home Construction

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

On July 17th, 2008,  Inclind launched Beracah Homes brand new website. The project was a huge undertaking but was executed quickly utilizing the latest methods in web development and delivered on target for the opening day of Delaware State Fair festivities, where Beracah Homes staff are handing out marketing materials advertising their new website.

beracah1.jpg

Their new website gives Beracah Homes staff the ability to fully manage their website content inside and out. They have the ability to create polls, homes, banners, slideshows, forms/inquiries, as well as upload videos for web streaming. You can view Beracah Homes commercials and clips from their DVD on their website, all in Adobe Flash. The server handles the conversion to Adobe Flash, so all a user has to do is upload the video in MPG, WMV, or Quicktime format. The content management system has been simplified to the point where it is extremely easy for the client to make the changes they want without hassle. We utilized cutting edge tools, custom PHP programming and easy UI for management purposes. The backend for Beracah Homes will also provide their 9 builder partners the ability to direct and share content across their sites as well, which will start launching in August, so look for those too.

We chose Inclind to totally redesign our website because of their professionalism. They had specialists in each area of web development and design. In addition, their portfolio of work was convincing. We’ve been very pleased with the results with our new and dynamic site. - Roger Collison, Vice President, Beracah Homes, Inc.

About Beracah Homes:

Beracah Homes, Inc. is a custom designed, modular home construction company located in Greenwood, DE. Pioneers in “off-site, stick-built” construction, Beracah began production in its factory on April 7th, 2003 and was built to deliver quality and value in the new home construction industry. That commitment to quality can be seen in the raw materials that are built into each home. Your Beracah is built with a little more lumber than a typical home constructed entirely on-site, is a lot stronger, and will make you very happy.

Inclind, Inc is a Delaware web design web firm also serving the Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia areas specializing in web design, web hosting, custom website design, website design, web applications, Adobe Coldfusion development, database design, MySQL / MSSQL database & consultation, ecommerce, PHP development, Wordpress themes, iPhone application development, Drupal hosting, Drupal development, logo branding, business logic, custom application programming, Linux and Windows Server management and more.
